FAQ

How do I understand the sizing?

W (WAIST) L (LEG) H (HIPS) these are the measurements of the jeans, we measure in inches always.

How do you measure the denim?

We always use a fabric tape measure and measure in inches, we recommend you do the same when measuring yourself.

WAIST: we measure the waistband laid flat and double the measurement.

INSIDE LEG: we measure from the crotch down the inside of the leg to the hem of the jeans/shorts.

LENGTH (FOR SKIRTS): we measure straight down the middle from the waist band to the bottom of the skirt.

HIPS: we measure across the widest part, around the middle of the back pockets, and double that measurement.

How do I know what size to buy?

To achieve the perfect fit you need to measure your body; this is the only way to know what size to purchase and what waist, hip and leg measurement to choose.

How do I measure myself?

Using our Vintage Size Guide will help you get your perfect fit.

Take your measurements with a soft fabric tape measure.

Waist: This measurement will be taken where you want your jean/skirt/short to sit on your body.

You will be choosing what rise you want when you take this measurement, so please take the measurement where you want your waistband to sit. For example: if you want a low rise, you will measure lower down on your waist (therefore you will not be measuring your smallest part of your waist) and may be a bigger measurement then you are used to buying in standard jeans. Our sizes do not work like standard sizes in high street shops so if you are usually buying a waist 26" (size 6-8) do not purchase this size if you want your item low waisted. However, If you want your item high waisted please measure around the smallest part of your waist.

LENGTH (FOR SKIRTS): Once you've taken this measurement if you are purchasing a skirt you will need to flip the tape measure vertically and go from the point where you have measured you want your skirt to sit straight down to where you want you want your skirt to finish. This measurement will all depend on your height, leg length and how short you like your skirts. It is important you take this measurement and don't just guess as for petite/tall girls this measurement can be crutial!

INSIDE LEG (JEANS OR SHORTS): Once your waist measurement is done you will then need to go vertically with your tape measure on the inside of your leg from your crotch to (if your buying shorts) where you want the shorts to finish. Or (if you are buying jeans) all the way down to your foot/inside ankle depending where you want your jeans to finish. If you like a stacked look or are planning to wear with heels you should add a couple of inches to that measurement. You can also take this measurement on your favourite length pair of jeans if helpful.

HIPS: Take this measurement around the widest part of your hips/bum to ensure the most flattering fit, as we don't want any squished bums and want your waist-hip ratio to be perfect in our denim.

Please measure each part of your body according to the measurements asked for on our pieces, and ensure you do this BEFORE ordering. Once ordered your size cannot be changed. We ask every customer to measure themselves before ordering our pieces as at this time we do not accept returns due to most items being custom tailored to the measurements you give us.

How does your 'MADE TO ORDER' service work?

Our 'Made To Order' service is there for those who want the perfect fitting denim, in the wash and fit of their dreams.

Once you select your piece, enter your measurements and select your wash, distressing and fit. We will go through our large collection of vintage Levi's and pick out the piece that best suits your requirements  from all the information you have given us when ordering. Depending on the fit required and your measurements we will then tailor the piece to fit you perfectly, and customise any distressing that may be wanted. This way we can create your dream piece of denim without the hassle of having to take it to the tailors. This process can take 7-14 days so please ensure you have added this onto our delivery time scale. Once made it will be sent using the postage option you have selected at checkout.

What does 'distressing level' mean?

This is the amount of distressing you are requiring on your item. This can be between minimal to highly distressed or where you would like the distressing to be. In this section please be as descriptive as possible, if there is an image on our site you would like to be recreated and want the distressing of that item, please include the image number in this section. If no distressing is wanted please write N/A.

What does 'fit' mean?

The 'fit' section is to ensure that you get the shape and fit you are looking for in your jean. If you want a baggier fit we will choose a larger size of jean and tailor them to the measurements you give us so you get a baggy fit with the waist tailored to fit your size. An example of each fit type is given in the description of our 'made to order' items.

Slim- tight fitting jean, not much movement. Great if your like your jeans slim fitting.

Relaxed- little bit more room around thighs and leg area, still flattering but more of a comfy fit.

Baggy- an oversized baggy fit throughout the thigh, bum and leg area.

Why are the sizes measured with a tape and different to standard sizes?

This is because we are using Vintage Levi's for all our items. Vintage denim has little to no stretch at all and it can shrink and stretch over the years, causing the marked size (on the badge/inside tag of the jeans) to be incorrect.

We measure all the jeans with a tape to make sure we get the current size of the item, so you can achieve your perfect size - we stand by our measurements and they are always double checked prior to dispatch

If I order a "Made to Order" item - will it look exactly like the item the model is wearing?

Our made-to-order section, is a unique yet amazing service we provide, where we hand-pick out vintage denim for its colour and fit and customise it to your chosen design & size. As each pair of denim we use is vintage, no two are the same. Meaning your piece will not be an exact 1-1 copy of the item you see the model wearing. Nether-the-less we will try our upmost to replicate what you see in the photos or if there is a piece you would like your item to look like. However please be aware, as all our denim is unique, the following factors should be taken into consideration prior to ordering and the following will differ for each made to order item. The wash, colour, natural distressing details, an extra hem maybe added for length where noted, tailoring may ocour.

We will take specific requests into consideration, however it is not always possible to fulfill exact identical requests.

We understand this isn't for everyone, if it isn't for you - order from our ready-to-wear section. Pieces chosen by us and customised, that you can see before you buy.

How do your 'Ready to Wear' pieces fit?

As these pieces are not tailored at the waist they all have a standard 'slim-relaxed' fit. If you want a baggy low rise fit choose an item from this section that is a couple inches bigger than your waist size. If you choose a piece that has the same measurements as you this will fit you like a standard pair of Levi's.

I love this 'Ready To Wear' item but the waist is slightly too big for my measurements- Can these pieces be tailored?

If you like a piece from this collection but the waist size is slightly too big, however the rest of the measurements are the same as yours please contact us and with an extra £15 charge and we can tailor it to your waist size after purchase. This can also be done if you are after a baggy fit but want them to fit higher waisted.

I want a pair of jeans/skirt/shorts that I have seen someone else wear, but they don't seem to be in stock.

Due to the nature of vintage Levi's, no two pairs of denim are the same and styles are 1 of 1. We aim to re-stock similar styles in our 'Ready To Wear' section, so hopefully you can find your perfect pair. If you would like us to replicate something similar in your size this will be where our 'Made to Order' service comes in. Have a look through our collection and see if you can find the item there, if not contact us on instagram @closetlunavintage and we will see what we can do.

I want a baggy fit, what size shall I go for?

We love an oversized pair of denim! If you want to achieve this look from our 'Ready to Wear' section, as a recommendation we say size up around 2 inches on your waist size. We recommend that you measure your body where you want the jeans to sit, for example on your hips, or mid-rise between your hips and waist. Go for the waist size that matches this measurement.

*An example, our model measures 26" at the smallest part of the waist, however for a baggy fit she wears W28-29, so they sit lower at the hips and are baggy around the waist area.

On our 'made to order' section select the waist size where you want your jeans to sit, and then select the fit 'baggy'.

I want a tight fit, what size should I go for?

Denim is so flattering, it can do wonders for the booty. For a tight fit, snug at the bum and waist, go for your exact waist and hip measurements (leave a little wiggle room as vintage denim has no stretch and you wanna make sure you can do them up! so if your inbetween sizes go for the half size up!)

on our 'made to order' section select your waist size and select the fit 'slim'.

How do I wash and care for vintage / customised denim?

Wash your vintage denim with care, we recommend to wash as infrequently as possible to protect the fibres and fit. Wash on a low temperature, 30 degrees or below. At first instance, spot clean. Air dry if possible to protect the fit and stop shrinkage over time- if you wanna soften them up put on a quick 15-30 min dry once air dried.

For painter denim, hand-wash or wash cold to preserve the paint, this will naturally fade over time.

Jeans with compositional changes like the addition of faux leather cannot be washed in the washing machine. Spot clean or hand wash only to preserve the material.

The distressing we do on your jeans, will naturally enhance over time - the beauty of vintage denim!

Are the jeans new?

To keep it brief, no!  We sell vintage denim. We do promise that once you invest in your first pair with us, you won't go back. Each pair of vintage jeans are hand-picked and one of a kind. There will be absolutely no two pairs we sell that are the same.

Vintage denim may show various imperfections and may have some marks/stains and rips. With vintage items there is always a chance they will show some imperfections due to natural wear and tear and their age - we believe this adds to their story and makes them even more unique! The imperfections that may be on the jeans does not impact their wear.

All pairs are pre-loved and we do not manufacture them

Are the clothing items sustainable?

We use pieces that would otherwise be thrown away and rework them into something you will love.
